Fever (Index Page)
A word about Acetaminophen, Paracetamol and Tylenol
There is no difference between acetaminophen and paracetamol. They are two generic names for a chemical substance known as para-acetylaminophenol. All three of these are better known by its trade name (at least in the U.S.) of Tylenol.

Tylenol is different than Ibuprofen which in turn is diffeeent than Aspirin. Although all 3 compounds may treat pain and are often used to reduce fever, a practice that should be greatly reduced.

Ibuprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID).

Aspirin is known as a salicylate ( acetylsalicylic acid) and a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID).

Measles
Children may die "with measles" but not "from measles". The use of fever suppressing compounds, like aspirin, raise the death rate "with measles". The actual cause of death falls under 3 causes: filth, malnutrition and mistreatment. Regarding nutrition, "...when patients with measles are given vitamin A supplements, their complication rates and chances of dying are significantly reduced." Quote is from Pg 27 of VACCINES Are They Really Safe & Effective? Edition 2 by Neil Z. Miller.

Chicken Pox: Why Do Children Die?
The class of drugs that doctors use to treat catarrhal diseases are called antipyretics. Among antipyretics, aspirin tops the list of favorites. Aspirin is a phenol (carbolic acid) derivative, with all the chemical qualities of phenol, but without the deadly effect of carbolic acid. Aspirin, like phenol, deadens the nerve endings, thereby masking pain. But aspirin also diminishes a fever by partially blocking the thyroid and the adrenal glands (a bad thing). The phenol derivatives interfere with the proper function of the liver and damage liver cells. The use of aspirin, then, is an attempt to drive out one devil (disease toxins) by admitting another devil!

Is Acetaminophen Fanning the Flames of Vaccine Injury?
Posted By: Amanda Vazquez 08/09/2019, By Dani Lasher
Outdated recommendations to medicate children during periods of vaccination are doing more harm than expected. A decades-long recommendation, the science is far clearer now: acetaminophen, commonly known as Tylenol, and vaccines don’t mix.

Evidence on the use of paracetamol in febrile children
[WHO study] No studies showed any clear benefit for the use of paracetamol in therapeutic doses in febrile children with viral or bacterial infections or with malaria.

The Association of Acetaminophen, Aspirin, and Ibuprofen with Respiratory Disease and Lung Function
Epidemiologic evidence from both cross-sectional (13, 14) and longitudinal (15, 16) studies demonstrates an association between increased use of acetaminophen and an increased risk of asthma in both children and adults.

On average, flu symptoms lasted 5.3 days in participants who did not take aspirin or acetaminophen, compared with 8.8 days in people who took the anti-fever drugs.

Giving babies Calpol or other forms of paracetamol 'doubles the risk of them developing asthma and allergies'
By Sophie Borland - 29th November 2010
* Children three times more likely to get hayfever if they have paracetomol as infants, research shows
Babies given Calpol or other forms of paracetamol are twice as likely to develop asthma, research shows.

Those fed the medicines in the first 15 months of their life are also at much higher risk of suffering from allergies when they are older.

Researchers believe that the surge in childhood asthma in the last 50 years may be linked to increasing numbers of parents giving their children paracetamol for pain or fever relief.

A study found that babies who had Calpol or similar medicines in the first 15 months were twice as likely to have suffered wheezing and other symptoms of asthma by the time they were six.

That dreadful fever may be good for you
The team from the Medical Research Institute and Capital and Coast District Health Board have looked at previous trials on animals in which common treatments such as aspirin, paracetamol and ibuprofen were used to treat fevers.

Their study has been published in the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine.

Study co-author Kyle Perrin said the results were striking, and showed that animals given drugs to fight a fever were more likely to die from flu. "The ones treated with anti-fever agents died at about a 30 per cent higher rate. It was as simple as that."

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS (by Ian Sinclair)

Question: You say childhood fevers are beneficial. Can't fevers be dangerous and cause convulsions?

Answer: Let me answer that question by quoting the words of Dr Robert Mendelsohn, a Professor of Paediatrics and a man who treated tens of thousands of children in his lifetime. From his book 'How To Raise A Healthy Child In Spite Of Your Doctor' he writes "If your child contracts an infection, the fever that accompanies it is a blessing not a curse…..A rising body temperature simply indicates that the process of healing is sped up. It is something to rejoice over not to fear." Regarding convulsions, Dr Mendelsohn writes "High fevers do not cause convulsions. They result when the temperature rises at an extremely rapid rate……only 4% of children with high fever experience fever-related convulsions. There is no evidence that those who do have them suffer any serious after effects as a result. One study of 1,706 children who had suffered febrile convulsions failed to disclose a single death or motor defect."

Fever in Children - A Blessing in Disguise
  • Childhood fevers frighten grownups.
  • Fever is maligned and misunderstood.
  • Controversy surrounding the management of fever causes anxiety for parents, because they are not completely sure what to do when their child has one.

Seizures From Fevers In Kids Older Than One Appear to Not Cause Long Term Brain Injury
Fever-induced seizures, or febrile convulsions, affect up to 4% of children by age 5.

The possible long-term consequences for children's brain development and school achievement have been unclear. Some research has suggested that children who experience prolonged or recurrent febrile convulsions are at higher-than-average risk for mental retardation and behavioral problems. In sharp contrast, other studies have found these children to perform better on tests of intelligence and academic skills.

This latest research bolsters the findings of the latter studies, showing that children with a history of fever-induced seizures actually outperformed other kids in tests of memory and learning capacity.

The exception was for children who suffered febrile convulsions before the age of 1. These children were at increased risk for deficits in mental abilities.
